song 12: ding dong merrily on high
Huzzah, Christmas music time! I've been meaning to get on that for a while, actually, only I was having trouble with my voice (I don't even know, but it was horrible! I am always unhappiest when I can't sing), and the first song I tried to arrange failed spectacularly. Anyway, this is one of my favourite Christmas songs, for the tender, warm illustration of an archaic communal Christmas celebration: but I find most versions irritating as they are very bouncy. Which does not suit, think I. (This could also be, however, because the first version I heard was Neal & Leandra's, which is quiet and by-the-hearth warm.)

Also, a very special shout-out to barefoottomboy, who sent me an amazing set of bells: bells which make their musical debut here. Hurrah!

Ding dong merrily on high,
In heav'n the bells are ringing:
Ding dong! verily the sky
Is riv'n with angel singing.
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

E'en so here below, below,
Let steeple bells be swungen,
And "Io, io, io!"
By priest and people sungen.
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

Pray you, dutifully prime
Your matin chime, ye ringers;
May you beautifully rime
Your evetime song, ye singers.
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

Hee, I feel like a Patron of the Arts, now. :-)

And I actually rather like the bouncy versions of this songs, but my goodness, yours is beautiful. (And I have to say, the bells sounds even better than I imagined!)

Oh, and also: I finally got paid & transferred some money to my PayPal, so at last I have managed to donate - I thought I'd better donate in a big chunk all at once rather than song-by-song, I hope that's okay.
